The Consolations of Theology
In the year 2000 British writer Alain De Botton released his book, The Consolations of Philosophy, following a tradition that began in the sixth century when Boethius wrote an enormously influential work of the same name.
Inspired by De Botton's work, a group of Australian authors produced The Consolations of Theology, in 2008. This book considers what theology has to offer in addressing life's struggles and big questions, and it does so by focusing on the ideas and hardships of a major historical figure.
Andrew Cameron was given the task of addressing the issue of Obsession. He used St Augustine as a springboard into the discussion.
Rob Banks examined the life of C.S. Lewis to explore the problem of Pain
Brian Rosner uses the short life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer to consider 'consolations' in dealing with life's Disappointments
