The reading of the Lord's Prayer at the beginning of Victorian parliament sitting days has been a contentious issue for years.

But it has seen a fresh push, with Reason Party leader Fiona Patten preparing to move a motion in the Upper House to ditch it for good.

But Rev. Tim Costello told Sammy J on ABC Radio Melbourne it still has a purpose and would like to see it stay.
