Summary

HEAL Africa is a hospital, and much more - it aims to heal families, a nation, and a continent.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is one of the world’s most troubled places, riven by war, conflict and poverty. But it’s also home to the HEAL Africa hospital, which doesn’t just seek to cure the sick but to bring healing to a ravaged nation.

Dr Jo Lusi founded HEAL Africa with his wife Lyn, and Dr Justin Paluku is CEO of the organisation and one of only two doctors in Congo who can perform much-needed fistula operations. Justine Toh spoke to them about the holistic goals of HEAL Africa, and about their fight against sexual violence against women, who have suffered the most in the upheavals of the last two decades.
